Overview of EURO

The euro symbol is €, and the code is EUR. In Europe, it is the official currency of 19 member states out of 27. It is the second most traded currency in the foreign exchange market. According to reports, "In December 2019, more than €1.3 trillion was in circulation. The euro had the highest combined value of banknotes and coins in the world at that time."

History of EURO

The Maastricht Treaty came into power in 1993. Their sole motive was to create a monetary and economic union by the end of 1999. Finally, the euro came into existence on 1st January 1999. On that day, the value of 1 euro in Indian rupees was one only. Soon for all European states (excluding the UK and Denmark) euro became their currency.

Note: Denmark has a fixed exchange rate policy for the euro.

However, the virtual currency was formed in 1999 but only came into circulation in 2002.     Within some time, it took over the rest of the world. And, in 2009, the Lisbon Treaty finalised its political regime, the Eurogroup, alongside the European Central Bank.

Overview of INR

The symbol to express Indian currency is ₹, and the code we use to denote the Indian currency is INR. The Indian currency is issued and managed by the Reserve Bank of India as per the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.

The symbol ₹ was officially adopted in 2010. This new symbol was formed using the combination of Devanagari and Latin language. र (Ra) from Devanagari and capital R from Latin language was used. However, similar lines indicate the tricolour of the Indian Flag on the symbol. It is also said to represent equality and nations' preference to reduce economic contrast. The first series of new rupee signs came into circulation on 8th July 2011.

However, on 8th November 2016, the Government of India announced the demonetisation of banknotes of value ₹500 and ₹1,000.

Further, from 2017 to 2019 new series of banknotes in denominations of ₹10, ₹20, ₹50, ₹100 and ₹200 were released.

Note: ₹1,000 notes have not been in use since 8 November 2016.

History of INR

The currency was in use in India from the 6th century BCE. It is considered that ancient India was the oldest and first country to issue coins in the world, along with Lydian Staters and Chinese Wen.

Even in the centuries 340–290 BCE, Chanakya mentioned the use of silver, gold, copper, and lead coins in Arthashastra. In the 18th century, Indian currency saw many ups and downs.

Even in the 19th century, the British conducted experiments to regularise the use of gold coins but failed unexpectedly. Further, according to Da Tang Xi Yu Ji, there was no bar set for the financial system at the middle time of the century.

Ultimately after the partition of India and Pakistan, the Indian government introduced Gulf Rupee. It works as a replacement for the Indian rupee outside the country with the assistance of the Reserve Bank of India Act 1959. The only motive was to reduce the strain on India's foreign reserves from smuggling gold. However, after India dropped the value of the rupee on 6th June 1966. Soon, the rupee was accepted as currency in Nepal and Bhutan.

Note: Before the partition, the Indian rupee was an official currency of many countries like Oman, Dubai, Kuwait, Aden, Seychelles, Uganda, Mauritius, Qatar, Bahrain, the Trucial States, Kenya, and Tanganyika.

Nepal and Bhutan don't accept the series of notes with the Mahatma Gandhi picture on them.   On 2014 29 January, Zimbabwe also accepted the Indian rupee as their legal tender to be in use. EUR to INR Forecast
